A Brief Experience with AI
During my research for my AI podcast script, I was finally overcome with enough curiosity to try it out for myself. Nothing too fancy, I just pulled up the Copilot app on my computer and started asking it questions about the new Biden AI regulations that came out at the beginning of the month. It didn't take long for me to be slightly awed by the capability of what is likely a low-end AI program. After question and question, I finally asked the big concern that I'm sure we've all run into when contemplating AI. Will it render me obsolete? Here are its answers:
"No worries—my existence is more of a complementary tool rather than a replacement. While I can provide information and explanations about regulations, I can't replace the nuanced understanding, expertise, and personal touch that you bring to your role. Navigating export compliance requires interpreting complex regulations, understanding specific business contexts, and providing tailored advice—all of which benefit greatly from human experience and judgment.
Think of me as an assistant that can handle some of the more straightforward inquiries, freeing you up to focus on the more complex and strategic aspects of your work. Collaboration between humans and AI can enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness, rather than posing a threat to jobs."
When will AI reach the level where it will be able to take over my job?
"AI is advancing rapidly, but the timeline for it to fully take over specialized roles like export compliance is uncertain. While AI can assist with processing and analyzing data, interpreting complex regulations, understanding specific business contexts, and providing tailored advice requires human expertise and judgment.
Your role involves critical thinking, ethical considerations, and a personal touch that AI can't replicate. Instead, AI can serve as a valuable tool to streamline routine tasks and provide support, allowing you to focus on more strategic aspects of your job.
AI's strength lies in enhancing human capabilities, not replacing them. Embracing this collaborative approach can lead to more efficient and effective outcomes."
I'm still not sure if these answers are reassuring to me or not. But until the day comes where AI can act as an Export Compliance Consultant, I'll still be here. So contact us here at AEC for all your compliance needs! Research done Right. Compliance made Simple.
